Manaus Half-Day Tour

First Stop – Ponta Negra Beach – The city’s main and most urbanized river beach, it is located on the banks of the Negro River, the second most important river in the Amazon basin. The complex has an infrastructure that has made it one of the main tourist spots in the city. The beach, with its boardwalks, amphitheater, fine sands, and warm water, offers its visitors comfort, ample parking, restaurants with regional foods, a gazebo, a pier, a shopping complex, and areas for sport and leisure. It is a modern and complete tourist complex, which still has an amphitheater where national and international artistic presentations take place. Built in the 1990s, the Ponta Negra leisure complex was modernized about 2 km from the Negro River waterfront. Ponta Negra Beach is located a 30-minute drive from the Port. The visit will last approx. 45 minutes.

After Ponta Negra Beach, the group will return to Downtown Manaus (a 30-minute drive) and the next stop will be the Amazonas Theater, the main Tourist spot in Manaus opened in 1896 and restored in 1990.

The history of this magnificent building is the story of Manaus itself, not least the rubber boom of the 1880s and 1890s, the fabulous wealth it spawned, and the determination of the magnates to create in the middle of the Amazon jungle an opera house that could compete on equal terms with the best that Europe could offer. To that end, they imported from Europe the finest of materials, with an abundance of marble, inlays, frescoed ceilings, ornate balustrades, and boxes, all in a setting opposite the Sao Sebastião Church and Park that enhances the magnificence of the structure itself. The Visitation will last approx. 1 hour.

After the Theater, Tour will have a quick 20-minute stop at São Sebastião Church, located across the street from the Theater.

After the Church, the group will visit the Galeria Amazonica. Galeria Amazônica is an initiative of the PWA (Waimiri Atroari Program and ISA (Socio-Environmental Institute) to enhance the art of traditional Amazonian populations through Fair Trade of pieces produced by artisans from more than 30 indigenous peoples from various Amazonian regions. Know the origin of each piece, the people who produced it, and the region. Without intermediaries, the Gallery relates directly to the local Associations and directly remunerates the producers. Definitely one of the best places in town (if not the best) for Artcraft. The Visit will last approx. 50 minutes.

After Galeria Amazônica, the tour will continue to the Manaus City Museum. The Manaus City Museum, located in the Historic Center, which for decades has been used as the seat of the municipal government, has become the home that tells the story of the Manauara people. Bringing together architectural beauty, technology exhibits, archaeological pieces, and regional articles, the Museum opened on the city’s anniversary in October 2018. The visit will last approx 50 minutes.

After the Museum, Tour will continue to Adolpho Lisboa Market. The Municipal Market is located on the banks of the Negro river. Built during the rubber cycle with material imported from Europe, its cast-iron structure was designed by the French engineer Gustave Eiffel, who designed and named the famous Eiffel Tower.

With over 135 years of history, it was inaugurated on July 15, 1883, and is one of the most important spaces for the commercialization of products and foods typical of the Amazon, due to the variety of species of freshwater fish, handicrafts, fruits, and vegetables. and spices, attracting the attention and curiosity of those who visit, becoming a symbol of the architecture of the golden age of the rubber economy and a relic for all of Brazil. The visit will last approx 30 minutes.

After the Market, the group will return to the Port.

On Sundays, Galeria Amazônica is closed and the Group will visit the Craft Street Fair that takes place only on Sundays, on the Street behind the Amazon Theater.
On Mondays, the City Museum is closed. Group will spend more time at other attractions as the main museums of the City are also closed.
