Historic Tour Description
.

Discover the essential sights of Salvador (capital of the Bahia State) on a tour tracing the development of the city from its simple beginnings to what is now the third-largest city in Brazil, with 2,418.000 inhabitants and the Greater Salvador area with almost 4 million inhabitants, according to the 2022 sense, becoming the largest city in the Northeast of Brazil.
After ship pick-up, we pass by the elegant tree-lined avenues of the city until reaching the historic Barra Lighthouse. According to the Brazilian Navy website, the Lighthouse was built in 1536, being the first fortification in the country, and is one of the main tourist attractions in Salvador. The current tower, 22 meters high, was installed on December 2, 1839.
The tour will continue to the bustling streets of Pelourinho, a Unesco Heritage site and the largest complex of Portuguese Colonial architecture in South America, which brings something that goes back to the Arab and Moorish style of the period of occupation of the Iberian Peninsula. We leave the vehicle at the Municipal Square, by the towering Lacerda Elevator, with great views of the bay stretching out to the lower city, and stroll through the narrow, bustling streets lined with buildings in pastel shades of an age gone by, soaking in the sights and sounds of this vibrant city. You will visit the Cathedral and the church of St Francis with its exuberant gold-leafed Baroque interior, and the Pelourinho square, the heart of the old town.
The first Brazilian Capital from 1549 to 1763, Salvador da Bahia witnessed the blending of European, African, and Amerindian cultures, at a time when Brazil was still a Monarchy (until 1822). It was also, from 1558, unfortunately, the first slave market in the New World, with slaves arriving to work on the sugar plantations. The city has managed to preserve many outstanding Renaissance buildings. A special feature of the old town is the brightly colored houses, often decorated with fine stucco work. The Historic Centre of Salvador da Bahia has a high degree of authenticity in terms of location and setting, forms and designs, materials, and substances. In the 1990s, some 1,350 properties were restored in the Pelourinho district with the objective of developing the economic potential of the area by exploiting tourism.
The Historic Tour is a 2 and a Half to 3 Hours Walking Tour! Unfortunately, the Salvador Full-Day Tour is not suitable for Passengers with Mobility Difficulties.
.
LUNCH INCLUDED AT THE AWARDED UAUÁ RESTAURANT – REGIONAL CUISINE only for the 7 and 8-hour tours.
Uauá Restaurant  – DoBrazilRight´s Favorite Regional Seafood Restaurant in Salvador
This typical Regional restaurant located in the heart of the Historic District of Pelourinho is a hidden Jewel in Salvador. It is not very visible from the outside although it will surprise you when you arrive on the first floor of the old historic building. It´s a must while in town. Specialists in fish and seafood, it´s definitely one of the best places in the country to try the flavors of Brazilian Northeastern cuisine. We highly recommend you order the Fish Moqueca, which is a sort of Portuguese Stew with a Regional Brazilian Touch! It´s one of the most famous Brazilian dishes served all over the country, although it is originally from Bahia!

Panoramic Tour Description
.

We continue to The Lower City tour, another perspective of the sprawling city, taking us to the quiet waters of the Itapagipe Peninsula where life moves at a slower pace than in the bustling upper city. Fishermen fish from dugout canoes, locals collect shellfish at low tide, and schooners lie at anchor, all protected by the famous Bonfim church, one of the most important churches of pilgrimage in Brazil and deeply syncretized with the African Candomblé (visit). We continue to the Monserrat district with its panoramic view of the city and on to the Mercado Modelo, a thriving market for local artifacts and souvenirs. This is also where you can test your bargaining skills!
