Is the Champions´ Parade Weekend still Carnival? Definitely YES!!!
Champions´Parade Weekend is STILL CARNIVAL! Even though officially Carnival ends on Ash Wednesday at 12 noon, the parties in Rio de Janeiro won’t stop until the following Sunday. It feels like there´s a 2-and-a-half day Pause, but then on Saturday, it´s Carnival again until Sunday!
After the Parade Results on Ash Wednesday, only the top 6 Samba Groups will parade again 3 days later, on Saturday, at the Sambadrome, for the so-called Champions´ Parade.
The Champions’ Parade Weekend is an excellent opportunity for you TO SAVE A LOT, and still enjoy the Carnival Parade and Street Parties with the same atmosphere as during the Carnival Holiday that just happened the week before after all Carnival ends on Wednesday only in the Calendar, not for Brazilians who are saying good-bye to summer school vacations and want to enjoy until the last minute before going back to reality the next Monday. Many people say the New Year in Brazil starts that Monday after the Champions´ weekend when the school year starts and people go back to their routine after the summer break.
Tickets for the Champion’s parade are also cheaper and some people actually prefer watching the Champion’s parade because you get to watch the Top 6 Samba Groups out of 12 from the Special Group the weekend before.
Here are some reasons why you should definitely consider traveling to Rio during the Champion´s Parade Weekend.
1. Post-Carnival Street Parties in Rio
Many of the most traditional Street Parties (Blocos) in Rio will play again on the Champions´ Parade weekend. There are still hundreds of parties taking place all over the city. A party that during Carnival gathers 500.000 people, during the Champions´weekend will gather from 20.000 to 50.000, and that can be a huge plus!

2. Hotel Prices
Most Rio Hotels will have a very reduced rate compared to the weekend before. That means you will not have to pay for a Hotel Special Holiday Package that during Carnival cost up to 300% more expensive.
3. The Atmosphere
The Atmosphere of the Champions´ Parade is as sensational as during the Oficial Parade that took place the weekend before. Carnival parades at the Sambadrome are highly competitive, and the Champions’ Parade exudes the relaxed and upbeat atmosphere of thousands of people past the Ash Wednesday hurdle when the tense (and often tearful or heatedly contentious) point-counting takes place. The city of Rio will not be as crowded as just a few days before. This is a Huge PLUS!!! You will get to visit Rio´s postcards with much smaller lines!!! Traffic will be much less intense too!
4. Parade Tickets Price
It doesn’t hurt that tickets to the “Desfile das Campeãs”, also known as Sábado das Campeãs (the Champions’ Saturday), are more affordable than the ones on the weekend before.
5. The Audience
Besides parade participants themselves, samba schools have loyal followers who keep up with their every movement, cheer for them like sports fans, and come in throngs to the Winners’ Parade to celebrate their outstanding performance.
Because the parade also closes the Carnival season at the Sambódromo, there’s a pervasive feel of the last hurrah for Rio residents and tourists alike.
All 90.000 Champions´ Parade Tickets get sold as fast as the Carnival Parade.
6. The Pride
A concern that the Champions’ Parade might have a somewhat lackluster feel is quickly dismissed when you learn more about what Carnival means to samba schools – and what each samba school means to its members.
A samba school tugs at its members’ heartstrings much, in the same way, sports loyalty does. Earning the honor of being in the Winners’ Parade is something each samba school values very highly. A shoddy approach to the parade is completely out of the question. Everyone knows and wants to show you and make sure you agree, that they deserve to be back.
The floats, the creative costumes, the gung-ho drummers and “passistas” (dancers), the “destaques” or featured paraders, in their skimpy and/or outrageously luxurious costumes – they are all there.

Great trips on the cable car and to Christ the Redeemer, with tickets provided. Delicious lunch! Then Carnaval at the Sambadrome. It is impossible to describe the experience--such color, singing and dancing, such excitement! One of the best experiences imaginable! Marcelo recommended our seats--they were at eye level with the performers. One blew kisses at me! The transportation arrangements were very good. I was initially concerned about safety, but we were very safe getting there, and we felt quite safe in the Sambadrome. While in Rio de Janeiro, we used DoBrazilRight for all of our tours. We booked a day and a half intensive tour, visiting all the major sights. This tour was top notch. Mickl D22 February 2024Best way to get Rio Carnival tickets Started corresponding with Marcelo long before our trip to make sure we got the right seats to watch the Carnival. He explained the options and so we purchased his recommendation (Sector 9 assigned seat). It really worked out well. Marcello was outside the cruise terminal at the time he said, for us to collect our tickets (Panic over!). He gave us our seat tickets and the transfer to and from the Sambadrome. On the night, because we had assigned seats, we caught the 9pm transfer to the Sambadrome - others had to go much earlier and just wait. We found our seats relatively easily and we had a great view (until people started standing up - but they soon got bored / tired). Do take a cheap inflatable cushion (£4.99 from Amazon UK) as the seats are just marks on the concrete. We met others on the cruise who had bought much more expensive places in boxes and they had to stand to see anything and they were too low down and too far back. They did get refreshments - so what - we went for the view and the drama. Getting back to the port was a doddle. As we walked out of the stadium agents in "T" shirts spotted us and asked where we were going back to. When we said the port that put us in a group until there were about 15 of us (5 minutes max) then they walked us to a minibus which got us back in no time. Krishna P19 February 2024An excellent one-stop shop for a trip to Rio (especially Carnaval). My wife found the site, and after reading some reviews, I decided to book with DoBrazilRight.com. I am writing this review the day I came back. We decided to do the Champions Parade package (mainly because of timing - our first day in Rio was the last day of Carnaval proper), with hotel, full day tour, airport transfers, and Champions Box seats. Admittedly, it was a last minute on our part (1 month before), but we decided to try. Marcelo was there from start to finish. From the beginning, he advised us on hotel, and he was spot on when he got us a room at the Arena Leme hotel, with one of the best views we had during any hotel stay, with a beautiful rooftop area where we could have Spanish food. He also advised us on and got us great box tickets for the Champions Parade, and these did not disappoint. Transfers to and from the airport and the Sambadrome were a breeze, with Marcelo communicating with us through WhatsApp all the way (highly recommend getting a SIM for Brazil and using WhatsApp there) - the Portuguese drivers were very friendly and cordial and are ready to help. The one day Rio Tour included Corcovado/Christ the Redeemer, Selaron steps, and Sugar Loaf/Pao do Assucar, all with a private guide who spoke excellent English (Leo), who was very informative and professional, and a great source on information on Brazilian/Rio history, restaurant recommendations, and had a great sense of humor. If I had any questions during the trip, Marcelo was there to help us. If you need a one-stop shop for a trip to Rio (especially for Carnaval), I would recommend DoBrazilRight.com without reservations. It was our first time to South American and being there during Carnival was a bucket list trip for us. It was also our first time using a travel agent so were a bit nervous but Marcelo made the whole process easy and stress free. He kept us informed and was very quick to respond to all of our emails. We did the 8-hr day tour of the Christ the Redeemer, Sugar Loaf Mountain, Selaron Stairway and the Cinelandia Square with lunch at Fogo De Chao restaurant. Renato was our tour guide and he was excellent. If you're there in Rio to see these sights, definitely spring for the 8-hr with lunch vs the 6-hr. On top of the fact that you're eating at the one of the most well known steakhouses in Rio, it was also nice to sit down for a bit between sites. Renato also made us a reservation at Restaurant Marius Degustare. It was right next door to our hotel and was like nothing we've ever seen before. It is a must visit! And, of course, the highlight of the trip was the parade at the Sambadrome. To see it in person is so much more incredible than I could ever describe. Whichever tour you decide to go on or whatever activity you want to do, DoBrazilRight is who you need to use.
